Not only that Silverado fell from the #2 best-selling model in the half-ton segment, but it seems like Ranger is taking over the same position from another Chevy truck in the mid-size class. It could cause the announced new generation to arrive before the first schedule. The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado needs updates and the redesign will take place, our sources confirm. But, the details are yet to become official.
The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado is not going to be the only mid-size truck with a diesel engine anymore (we don’t count its GMC twin, Canyon). Jeep brought Gladiator with a huge oil-burner. So, we can erase this advantage as the exclusive offer. Still, there are a lot of other things the truck can rely on – especially off-road packages. Z71 and ZR2 are top-notch 4×4 trims. Unlike the GMC Canyon, the 2021 Colorado won’t offer the luxury version (Denali). Still, there are a couple of additional packages with cool upgrades, such as Redline Edition, Luxury bundle, and various other performance and styling features.
Changes and Colors
Colorado needs a radical update. The 2021 YM is new, but Chevrolet will need more than that. Well, the COVID-19 pandemic will give designers extra time to develop the new generation. It is not coming with the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado, since the truck is already out. For the new edition, we will see a new front fascia. It is especially notable on the ZR2 off-road model. It is the high-end solution, while the entry-level model is now WT instead of the Base. Well, further additions are still possible.
Besides the front end, the truck will also get more badging at the back, for all trims. Top of the lineup versions introduces Sand Dune paintjob. That is the seventh choice. Buyers can also select one of the following paintjobs: Satin Steel, Summit White, Black, Crush, Bright Blue, or Cherry Red. The last three options cost extra. The base WT model will also offer a Special Edition package. Redline Edition is the highlight of the LT, and there is also Chrome Appearance set for this trim. Midnight Edition will upgrade the Z71 with unique details, while the ZR2 is also offering Dusk and Bison packages.
Interior of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado (Features and Accessories)
The cabin of the truck is more convenient than ever. It suits five persons with Extended and Crew Cab configurations. Work Truck is not going to stun you with the offer, but there are some features worth of mentioning. For example, a 7-inch screen and 16-inch wheels are highlights. The LT will bring both features to the new level, with 8-inch and 17-inch diagonal. Plus, the package adds a remote locking tailgate. Z71 is more focused on the off-road drive. Suspension, tires, and transmission will help you in tough situations. The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 takes everything to a higher level with ultimate upgrades.
Spray-on bedliner, 18-inch wheels, and black side steps are coming with the Redline truck. Midnight Edition uses similar options, but smaller wheels with all-terrain tires. Bison package is exclusive for ZR2 with fuel tank skid plate and wheel molding. The Dusk model comes with off-road lights, sports bars, and 17-inch wheels.
2021 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel
The best performance of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado comes with the turbodiesel Duramax engine. The truck is getting 186 hp and 370 lb-ft from a 2.8-liter displacement mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. For a long time, Colorado is the #1 mid-size pickup for towing, with a capacity of 7,700 lbs. Rear-wheel drive is standard and you can also get the AWD, optionally, or by default with the ZR2 model. A diesel engine returns the best fuel economy, which goes up to 30 mpg on the highway (RWD). ZR2 is not so generous, making only 20 mpg combined.
Still, it is better than with 3.6-liter V6 petrol. The off-road specialist will destroy the fuel economy with only 17 mpg of average fuel consumption. Other versions will do 22 miles per gallon. A gasoline engine will produce 310 hp and 275 lb-ft. The WT is also using a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit. This one will make the price go down, but it is not resulting in more buyers purchasing the 200-hp rated pickup.
2021 Chevrolet Colorado Prices
More updates on the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado are yet to come. The company leaves space for new arrivals and special editions. Some say that a hybrid truck is possible. Until then, we will have to stick to the standard offer that starts from $30,000 (WT V6). A four-cylinder engine will save money ($1,500), but if you need a truck for hauling, then we recommend at least a V6 petrol. The diesel engine is available with the LT trim and costs $6,000 higher than the petrol setup. The Z71 package adds $1,000 atop of the LT for a $43,000 starting price. A four-pot is not available with the AWD. It will increase the price by $3,000 and comes standard of the ZR2. The off-road truck costs just under $45,000 with a 3.6-liter V6, and $48,000 with the turbodiesel.
