There are big differences in truck markets in the US and the rest of the world. Although the same companies are delivering their trucks with different names, there are modifications that make them more or less capable of working. While some nameplates are the same, some truckmakers are using different titles. Chevy Colorado is one of the best-selling models in North America. However, in Australia, this pickup is available as the 2021 Holden Colorado.
Holden is an Australian company with the right to use Chevy’s nameplates. So, we have Spark, Trax, Trailblazer, Equinox, and even Acadia (in the US available as the GMC’s model). The only pickup in this lineup is going to be the 2021 Holden Colorado. The truck is the best-selling vehicle in past few seasons. Still, the most famous car was the mid-size sedan Commodore. It is not in production since 2017.
The upcoming Holden Colorado is going to share the updates with the new Chevrolet S-10 truck for the South American market. The pickup appeared suddenly, without any announcement. So, there are three siblings with different names – Chevy Colorado, Holden Colorado and Chevrolet S-10. However, these trucks will share the same platform and a lot of design cues. On the other hand, every vehicle will have its own trademark details. For the Australian ute, that is a Holden badge on the front grille.
2021 Holden Colorado Diesel Engine Specs
Under the hood of the 2021 Holden Colorado is a diesel engine. It is the same unit we find in the US edition with the Chevy badge on the pickup. Also, this unit is the reason why Colorado is so popular worldwide. A 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder mill is delivering 190 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. With such outputs, the truck reaches 7,700 pounds of towing capacity, the best in class record for the United States. In Australia, it is 3,500 kg. A four-speed automatic transmission is the power router. This is another difference compared to the US version, where six- and eight-pace gearboxes are transferring power.
A diesel engine is providing enough energy to move on the Australian outskirts. That is why the 2021 Holden Colorado is going to be one of the favorites when it hits the market later this season. You can upgrade the offer with the Z71 off-road package. In this case, the pickup is becoming a mean machine. Still, the ZR2 is not available outside the US, not for a Holden model, or the S-10.
Last Chance to Get the Truck
The 2021 Holden Colorado is coming unchanged. General Motors is planning to start the new generation of the pickup in 2022, but this is not the key reason why Australian ute remains the same. The Holden brand is being discontinued. By the end of 2020, the whole production will stop and the 2021 Holden Colorado is going to be one of the last models coming from their plants. There is no doubt that pickup is coming back, probably behind the bow-tie logo. But, neither Australian carmaker nor GM is confirming anything about the future of the Colorado pickup.
2021 Holden Colorado Configurations
The discontinuation of the Holden company is not going to affect the popularity of the truck. It is a reliable unit, with a durable engine and a pretty potent performance. So, it would be a shame not to see Colorado back again. Plus, the truck offered many cool configurations. Pickup and chassis cab was at disposal.
Crew Cab will offer five seats and four doors. It is also the configuration that makes more options available for building. The base setup includes 4×2 and there are three trim levels to use with it. On the other hand, the 4×4 adds another three packages. Crew Cab could be replaced with the Space Cab, but in this case, you lose the 4×2 option and all the benefits this drive is bringing. Furthermore, one seat is removed, providing more space for four passengers aboard. There is only one trim level available in combination with the Space Cab – LTZ. The automatic transmission is the power router, unless you want the Chassis Cab, where manual gearbox becomes an option.
LT, LS-X, LTZ, LTZ+ and Z71 are the trim levels available on the 2021 Holden Colorado. The standard package includes the following equipment: Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 16-inch wheels and 4×2 drive. The LS-X makes the truck more stylish with a darkened theme and larger wheels. LTZ adds sports bars on the bed. Inside, zonal climate control and advanced safety equipment will make a ride more convenient. The LTZ+ is a premium package with leather seats, special paints and navigation. Still, no other model can match the off-road performance of the Z71. Unique suspension setup will help you go anywhere with the 2021 Holden Colorado.
