The 2021 RAM 2500 Power Wagon is one of the kind. There is no any other heavy-duty truck with the off-road special package. Well, Ford tried to match the offer with the Tremor trim for F-250, but it is not what fans are expecting. The Blue Oval badge will have to deliver the Raptor to satisfy the needs of potential buyers. Meanwhile, Ram is doing a great job by making the Power Wagon package. It is available only with the Series 2 truck. In the future, we hope that version will become a part of the Ram 3500 lineup, so we can combine it with a dual-rear-wheel configuration. That would be a blast, for sure.
The off-road truck is using the petrol engine, like the standard edition. Unfortunately, there is no high-output Cummins diesel. Also, it doesn’t offer the highest possible towing of more than 35,000 pounds. However, you don’t need the 2021 RAM 2500 Power Wagon for heavy work, but the off-road fun. Besides the stuff that will enhance the drive, there are also features which are boosting the overall impression about the interior and improve comfort.
2021 RAM 2500 Power Wagon Configuration
You will need a Crew Cab and a 6’4’’ bed for your 2021 RAM 2500 Power Wagon. Besides these requirements, the off-road package is available only with the 4×4 drive. Well, that is kind of expected. The off-road truck will also include the parts that are enhancing the performance. Outputs of the Power Wagon stays the same. The package includes the e-locking differentials. These are better than the limited-slip system, especially when it comes to a ride in muddy terrain. The off-road suspension is there, but most fans recommend an upgrade to the Bilstein 5100 series, or Fox 2.0. It is not all about the performance, so the 2100 RAM Power Wagon is offering a satellite radio and parking sensors.
Under the hood of the 2021 RAM 2500 Power Wagon will lay a 6.4-liter Hemi engine. The V8 configuration is available in smaller vehicles as the high-end option. For the HD truck, it will be good for 410 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed gearbox is a pair and it sends power to all wheels. An electronically controlled rear differential is the key upgrade. A limited-slip system might return better traction. The advantages of the e-locking configuration are durability and cheap maintenance. The fuel economy is poor, but you can’t expect big things from a heavy-duty truck and a large displacement.
Why There is no Diesel Engine?
The best performance for both Ram 2500 and 3500 are coming from the diesel unit. But, it is not available for the Power Wagon, although the Series 2 will offer one. Either way, the high-output version is not available, and DRW is reserved only for the Ram 3500 HD truck.
The Cummins I6 is missing from the 2021 RAM 2500 Power Wagon because of its size. Experts explain why. The winch blocks the positioning of the straight-six turbodiesel. The engine cannot fit behind the bumper. Dropping the winch is not an option, since it is kind of a trademark feature. Furthermore, the diesel unit must retune the suspension and differentials. Having all these in mind, the combination of Power Wagon features and diesel power is not compatible. The latest reports about the possibility of pairing these two in the future are not bright, since the company’s officials are writing off such changes.
2021 RAM 2500 Power Wagon vs Ford F-250 Tremor
This season, Ford made a move. The biggest truckmaker in the USA finally responded to the 2021 RAM 2500 Power Wagon with its own off-road package for F-250 Super Duty. Still, we expected a lot more. The Tremor truck is not going to make the F-250 impressive as it would Raptor edition do. Still, having a competitor will make the Power Wagon be better in the future.
We also expect a response from GM and Chevrolet. Silverado is losing battle against the Ram trucks, especially now when the FCA took over the second best-selling spot in the full-size pickup segment. A ZR2 package is an option, but there are no too many details about its development and the release date. Nissan Titan XD had a promising Warrior concept, but it never entered production.
The MSRP of the 2021 RAM 2500 Power Wagon starts at $54,000. There are a few possible upgrades for the HD truck. The Level 1 equipment will cost $2,000 and it brings storage bins, heated seats and steering wheel, and sun visors. Level 2 will come with a longer list of features, as well as a price tag of nearly $6,000. Towing can be easier if you invest $1,100 for advanced cameras (cargo-view, surround-view). Plus, there is a blind-spot monitor. A spray-in bedliner is also optional, as well as a few other bed features.
