The 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD is going to bring a lot of updates, although it was redesigned recently. General Motors is trying to keep pace with fierce rivals, Ford and Ram, especially now when it is not the main threat to the Blue Oval products. Test mules were out and photographers used the moment to take a few shots. A heavy amount of camo promises new details. But, the truck recently entered the fresh generation, so these changes won’t be huge. Plus, the heavy-duty trucks are there to work.
Full-size segment sells better, but there are plenty of truckers loving a huge V8 under the hood of the heavy-duty series. Size and power matters and these people are willing to sacrifice unnecessary features and advanced entertaining options to get the best performance. The 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD will still offer petrol and a diesel engine. However, if you want the maximum from the Duramax unit, you will have to purchase Silverado 3500 Dually. In this case, the towing capacity raises to 36,000 pounds. Series 2 will trail up to 18,500 lbs.
2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Changes
The new heavy-duty truck was spied, but it doesn’t unveil too much. On the other hand, the company is focused on the update of the half-ton model, which is about to bring serious changes outside and inside. Plus, the new ZR2 or ZRX version should be a rival to Ram TRX and the Ford Raptor. Meanwhile, we found sources to confirm the first changes on the 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Designers will update the color palette. We can’t complain about the paintjob options and this is the easiest way to refresh the offer. General Motors will also reshuffle options between trim levels. Some features available on high-end models will be available on lower tiers.
No Mechanical Updates
Again, Silverado 1500 needs to catch up with the competition, since its diesel version is towing 2,000 pounds less than Ford F-150 and Ram 1500. On the other hand, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax lacks torque. The pickup is rated at 910 lb-ft, while rivals are over 1,000 pound-feet. But, it doesn’t affect towing capacity. For the series 2 model, maximum trailering is 18,500 pounds, while the highest number is 36k, similar to Ford F-350 and Ram 3500 HD. The diesel engine is a mighty 6.6-liter turbodiesel. A V8 plant produces 445 horsepower and sends them through a 10-speed Allison gearbox. The manufacturer recently updated the transmission and now it is considered as one of the best pair for high-output oil-burners. Rumors say Ram could also adopt it and replace the AISIN case.
If size matters, and not the maximum towing capacity, then you can go with a petrol engine. This configuration includes a 6.6-liter naturally-aspirated V8 and a six-speed transmission. The new engine is receiving praise after replacing a 6.0-liter Vortec drivetrain. It can produce 400 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. The gasoline configuration is not as powerful as the diesel setup, but it is cleaner and provides enough energy for towing up to 15,000 lbs.
Towing Has Never Been Easier
Chevrolet trucks might lack some numbers and impressive records, but the company is still keeping pace with Ford and Ram. The truckmaker made a huge leap with towing capacity numbers. A previous generation of HD models was not so potent with only 23,000 pounds of max trailering. Now, that capacity is 36,000. Still, we are talking about the Series 3 Silverado 3500HD. But, this upgrade caused more changes to make hauling easier.
General Motors introduced the Multi-Pro tailgate. This multi-purpose feature will allow you to use the tailgate in six different ways. It can be a work station, it can lock longer objects… For the heavy-duty segment, this one will be called Multi-Flex, but it is actually Multi-Pro.
More help is coming from the latest transparent camera system. The total of 16 views makes the trailering so easy. Plus, the Advanced System offers some cool additions you won’t find elsewhere. You can monitor details such as hitching. Of course, like many devices, trucks are becoming smarter. You can check all functions by linking a mobile app and Chevy Infotainment 3 system. Extra features will deliver you pre-departure checklists, monitor tire pressure and temperature on the trailer, or remind you about upcoming maintenance.
2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Price
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD is a better option if you don’t need 30k+ of towing capacity. The truck will save you money by starting under $35,000. Still, with plenty of upgrades, the Series 2 model can reach $55,000. Compared to the competition, you will find a similar offer. But, Chevrolet is not offering a unique model for this type of truck. Ram Power Wagon and Ford F-250 Tremor are special 4×4 packages. ZRX or ZR2 might be GM’s response.
