The Maverick is a brand-new compact pickup that will feature a hybrid powertrain option. However, the 2023 Ford Maverick could arrive with an all-electric variant. This is not official yet, but many reports are strongly predicting the Maverick Lightning model.
On the other hand, the 2023MY won’t introduce changes at all. Of course, electric version is the only upgrade. Recently, Ford confirmed that the Maverick pickup will also go on sale in South America. Clearly, Blue Oval manufacturer has big plans for its small pickup.
All-Electric 2023 Maverick is Happening
After the F-150 Lightning truck and Mustang Mach-E crossover, Blue Oval is about to introduce another all-electric vehicle. We are talking about the 2023 Ford Maverick Lightning. As we said, this is not yet official, but many reliable reports are convinced that the electric Maverick is happening. Ford will continue to invest in its electrification program, no doubt about it.
First renderings are available and Maverick will gain the same front fascia as the F-150 Lightning. On the other hand, regular Maverick will be unique and it will depart from the all-electric variant. Anyway, this is a compact pickup, so we expect to see smaller battery packs and less potent powertrain. Still, Maverick will borrow the same system for Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning models.
Hybrid Powertrain Specs
The basic XL variant of the 2023 Ford Maverick features a hybrid engine that mixes a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor. This combo generates 191 horsepower and is coupled to a continuously variable automatic gearbox (CVT). Ford promises 40 miles per gallon in the city, which is comparable to the EPA rating for the Escape Hybrid, although hybrid Mavericks are only available with front-wheel drive.
All-wheel drive is standard on the Escape Hybrid crossover, and Ford says it may be added to the Maverick hybrid later if demand warrants it. A nonhybrid turbo-four 2.0-liter engine is available as an option with front- or an optional all-wheel drive system. It produces 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque and comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Hybrid versions are rated to tow up to 2000 pounds, while the turbo 2.0-liter engine is rated to pull up to 4000 pounds.
2023 Ford Maverick Price and Release Date
According to the most recent reports, new 2023 Ford Maverick will also go on sale in Argentina. This pickup will join the already present F-150 and Ranger trucks, along with Raptor variants. Moreover, Blue Oval will invest a lot of money into the Pacheco Plant in Argentina, where the next-gen Ranger will be produced. Anyway, Maverick will be available in both North and South America.
The compact pickup will be available in three trim levels. The 2022MY will arrive this fall and the price will start at $21,500. The XLT trim level starts at $24,000 and the Lariat variant at $27,000. This means the all-electric Maverick will cost around $40,000. As you can see, Ford plans to make Maverick a complete player, offering both hybrid and all-electric powertrain options.
