Following the 2020 makeover, the new 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD will receive minimal changes. Previously a carryover, the heavy-duty truck lineup is now getting mid-cycle updates. Sales are strong, and GMC has no intention of slowing down. The manufacturer will make modifications to the exterior and inside.
Also, the diesel engine should gain a higher level of torque. But the engine lineup won’t alter, and there won’t be any electrification. Now we have spy images confirming the Sierra redesign. A few noteworthy changes will be made to the interior as well. Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming Sierra HD models.
2023 Sierra 2500HD Spied
The upcoming 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD was seen in heavy camouflage for the first time. The front fascia and C-pillars of this prototype are camouflaged, so we can’t assess the cosmetic modifications. However, the nice-looking 18-inch wheels indicate this is the entry-level Sierra 2500HD. Also, this base trim level appears to have the X31 Off-Road optional package.
The Rancho shocks, skid plates, and MT2 tires are very easy to spot. The front fascia has new headlights and a revised grille. The rear bumper and taillights are identical. We’re hoping for further details in the following spy images. Clearly, GMC won’t introduce a complete overhaul. Instead, we are looking at another mid-cycle facelift.
Updated Interior
This is an intriguing area, as many rumors surround the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD and its interior. For starters, a new cockpit is reportedly in the works. Sadly, the spy photographs didn’t disclose any interior features. The new cockpit has a new center stack and a larger infotainment touchscreen.
On top of that, a new digital instrument cluster is also being developed. Moreover, GM also debuted the new Super Cruise hands-free system. A new system for the Sierra 1500. Super Cruise may be available on the Sierra 2500HD, but only at the top trim level such as Denali.
Engine Options and Towing Capacity
The all-new 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD won’t get any new powertrains. But this truck will develop more torque. It all starts with a powerful 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine. This engine has 400 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. It has a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard rear-wheel-drive setup.
As before, the all-wheel-drive system will remain optional. A 6.6-liter V8 turbodiesel engine is available. It has 445 horsepower and 900 lb-ft of torque. As said, a diesel engine will produce more torque. The Sierra 2500HD has a 10-speed automatic transmission and can tow up to 35,000 pounds. A diesel engine will definitely provide even higher towing capacity so it will be the most powerful Sierra 2500HD model so far.
2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Release Date, Price
The new 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD will start at roughly $40,000 or a little less. We are awaiting pricing data, but it will undoubtedly be pricier than before. Also, the top Denali trim level will start at above $60k. The new Sierra HD trucks will be available later next year.
