2023 Mitsubishi L200 Could Arrive as a Hybrid Truck

The 2023 Mitsubishi L200 will introduce a mid-cycle facelift. The L200 truck will, however, receive some intriguing updates in 2023, but nothing substantial. Rumors of a complete makeover are unlikely to come true, at least for the time being. The next-generation L200 is expected to hit the market in 2022. Before that happens, Mitsubishi will make just enough upgrades to keep its pickup truck competitive.

According to recent sources, the L200 truck will receive modest cosmetic enhancements as well as improved fuel economy ratings. The cabin will be renovated as well. However, there is still some speculation concerning the hybrid powertrain. Mitsubishi’s new model will be unveiled before the end of the year.

Mitsubishi L200 Facelift

Forget about the complete exterior redesign, as the 2023 Mitsubishi L200 will receive mild cosmetic upgrades only. The 2022MY will gain a more modern and stylish appearance. However, the truck will undergo a few modifications in 2023. These modifications are minor. The size of the vehicle will not change at all, nor will its shape.

The L200 has a length of 205.1 inches and a height of 70.1 inches. The manufacturer also provides a two-door and a four-door body type, however, both with minor stylistic changes. On the spy photos, the new sheet metal is visible, as is the sharper front fascia.

L200 PHEV Rumors

In Europe, the upcoming 2023 Mitsubishi L200 will be powered by a 2.3-liter turbodiesel engine. This four-cylinder engine has 145 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. In Asia, the L200 comes with a bigger, 2.4-liter diesel engine that produces 180 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. Both models are available with either a basic 2WD or an optional 4WD configuration. The optional engine has a towing capacity of 7,500 pounds. Mitsubishi will provide several gasoline engines for various markets.

Customers, on the other hand, are less inclined to purchase gasoline variants. The hybrid variant remains a rumor. According to reports, the hybrid arrangement will be the same as in the Outlander PHEV SUV. The L200 will almost certainly get a diesel-hybrid combination, so anticipate something novel from Mitsubishi. Definitely, it will be a game-changer for this pickup truck.

2023 Mitsubishi L200 Price and Release Date

The forthcoming 2023 Mitsubishi L200 will keep the price of the outgoing model. This means the starting price will remain at $31,000. The new Nissan Navara and Renault, which will aim to place its Alaskan pickup in the market, will also compete in the segment. The Ford Ranger will be the first model to have a hybrid engine. Although the L200 Hybrid version is not yet official, it is expected to cost around $40k if it truly arrives.

The L200 truck will hit the dealerships in the second half of 2022, hopefully with a hybrid powertrain. Lastly, the brand-new Barbarian trim level will be on offer. It is Mitsubishi’s new range-topping variant. This means it will provide a more luxurious, more aggressive look and it will be an off-road capable version.
