2023 Ram 1500 EV to Fight Ford F-150 Lightning

The 2023 Ram 1500 EV will be the first all-electric version of the brand’s iconic half-ton truck. Most of the details are not available yet and we are waiting to hear more about this model. Ram claims that the EV model will have a driving range of up to 500 miles and the ability to tow more than 10,000 pounds, in addition to its conventional body-on-frame design and standard AWD setup.

Other preliminary promises include up to 150 kWh rapid charging and a high level of autonomous driving capabilities. While the electrified Ram 1500 will arrive after the Ford F-150 Lightning and, presumably, after the Chevy Silverado EV, it may be able to capitalize on any mistakes made by its competitors. Here’s everything we know so far.

Ram 1500 EV Driving Range and Towing Capacity

While we don’t know anything regarding the battery capacity or charging durations for the 2023 Ram 1500 EV, Ram has stated that the truck will have a driving range of up to 500 miles. That’s 200 miles farther than the F-150 Lightning’s current range estimate. The Ram 1500 EV is believed to be capable of charging at a rate of up to 150 kWh using a DC fast charger.

The manufacturer did not provide particular data when discussing the maximum towing capability of the Ram 1500 EV, and it did not discuss cargo capacity at all. However, the company boasts that its all-electric pickup truck would be able to tow more than its EV rivals. The F-150 Lightning currently has an official maximum towing capability of 10,000 pounds, so expect the Ram to outperform that.

Exterior Rumors

Right now, it is impossible to predict how the 2023 Ram 1500 EV will look like. Like the F-150 Lightning, the Ram 1500 EV variant will surely introduce a lot of new features. On top of that, stuff such as the closed grille and cleaner design are almost certain to happen. No doubt, styling will change, so we expect significant upgrades. On the other hand, all we can do at the moment is to speculate until Ram reveals the original design.

Very Upscale Interior

A similar story continues inside the cabin. The brand-new 2023 Ram 1500 EV will be more upright than the base Ram 1500 pickup truck. Besides more premium materials, the cabin will feature a more minimalistic design. On top of that, we anticipate seeing a drastically larger touchscreen option. Right now, a 12-inch Uconnect display is optional and incredibly functional.

2023 Ram 1500 EV Price, Release Date

The price of the 2023 Ram 1500 EV is not available yet. We’ll know more about the trim levels prices at some point next year. Moreover, it will be interesting to see what features would be standard and optional. Reportedly, the Ford F-150 Lightning will cost around $42,000, so we’d bet on the electric Ram 1500 starting around $45,000. This model will arrive in the second half of 2023, maybe as the 2024MY, which is always a possibility.
