The upcoming 2024 Dodge Dakota is going on sale later this year. From what we know, it will be a mid-size truck. The mid-size pickup truck segment is the most crowded one and is full of established models. Ford offers Ranger and Toyota offers Tacoma trucks.
Interestingly, the new Dakota should be based on the Jeep Gladiator. Of course, some things will be heavily borrowed from the Ram 1500 full-size truck. Dakota is not a new nameplate. Ram produced it from 1986 to 2011. It was available in three cab setups and numerous trim levels.
Dodge Dakota Will Be a Mid-Size Truck
As we said, the new 2024 Dodge Dakota will be a mid-size truck. This means the Dakota model will compete against the most established models in the segment, including, Nissan Frontier, Honda Ridgeline, Ford Ranger, and Toyota Tacoma.
Moreover, Ranger and Dakota will reportedly have the same size. Of course, this is not official, but many reputable reports are suggesting exactly that. Still, we must wait for the official details, and Dodge will reveal them in the following months.
Ram 1500 and Jeep Gladiator Should Have Heavy Influence
Naturally, we expect that the 2024 Dodge Dakota will borrow a lot of things from the larger Ram 1500 full-size pickup. It is the most likely outcome, and we expect to see the same design language and similar features.
However, Dodge reportedly plans to include Jeep Gladiator and use it as an inspiration for the new Dakota. And while Gladiator is a good off-roader, Dakota will be more upright, and it will provide better ride quality. However, if Gladiator impacts new Dakota, we expect to see at least one off-road trim level.
Engine Options
The forthcoming 2024 Dodge Dakota will most likely use existing engine options. It is the only outcome, as developing new engine is too expensive. Therefore, borrowing engines from Ram 1500 truck makes perfect sense. For a start, a reliable 3.6-liter V6 gas engine with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque is the perfect candidate. It is a perfect match because Dakota will be a mid-size pickup truck, so, it will produce more than enough power.
Another possible option is a 3.0-liter V6 diesel. This diesel powertrain develops 260 horsepower and a torque of around 440 lb-ft. Hybrid is another possible option, while an all-electric version will not arrive in the next two or three years. On the other hand, Jeep Wrangler SUV will be electrified. Moreover, the Jeep Gladiator truck, which is based on the Wrangler model, will get the same powertrain.
2024 Dodge Dakota Price and Release Date
The 2024 Dodge Dakota will cost around $30,000, per report. This approaching mid-size pickup truck will be an instant hit, no doubt about it. Honestly, Ram knows how to build a pickup, and Dakota will be no different. The sales should begin later in 2023, or in early 2024. The automaker will reveal more details in the following months.
