2024 Ford F-150 Only With Hybrid and Electric Powertrain?

The 2024 Ford F-150 could completely switch to electric power. More precisely, there is a chance that the gasoline and diesel engines will be removed from the offer. This means the 2024 F-150 truck will arrive with hybrid and all-electric powertrains exclusively.

The reality is a little bit different, and we think those rumors are completely false. Yes, regular combustion engines will see the end in the coming years, but not in 2024. The Ford F-150 will continue in the same fashion, with the all-electric Lightning variant coming to boost the current lineup.

Diesel vs. Gasoline Engine

Most automakers in the United States have offered diesel engines at some point in the last four decades. Diesels are now considerably rarer, appearing largely in pickup trucks and a handful of SUVs. Indeed, diesel engines have never been as popular in the U.S. as they have been in other countries, where high gasoline prices and tax breaks make them more cost-effective options. In the United States, historically low gas prices have stifled demand for more fuel-efficient engines. Meanwhile, hybrid gas-electric and electric-only powertrains have pushed diesel further back in recent years.

Furthermore, after Volkswagen was caught cheating on diesel emissions tests a few years ago, demand for diesel-powered vehicles and SUVs in the U.S. essentially vanished. The gasoline engine is more affordable, while diesel is more expensive, including its maintenance. On the other hand, diesels are more durable, and diesels are providing a higher level of torque and higher fuel efficiency. The 2024 Ford F-150 will continue to offer both gasoline and diesel engines, along with PowerBoost hybrid and electric F-150 Lightning variants.

Hybrid vs Electric Powertrain

The 2024 Ford F-150 will surely have the same engine lineup as the 2023MY. This includes gasoline and diesel engines, along with hybrid and all-electric versions. The F-150 Lightning will be one very impressive model. It will produce a lot of power, up to 560 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, it will provide around 300 miles of all-electric driving range.

As for the F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid model, it combines a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with an electric motor. This output develops 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, it gets 24 mpg combined, which is great for a full-size pickup truck. Of course, the electric variant will outperform the hybrid one, but both models will have an advantage over the traditional combustion engines.

2024 Ford F-150 Verdict

Generally, the rumors are saying that the 2024 Ford F-150 pickup truck will be powered by hybrid and all-electric powertrains. This is not true, as the 2024MY will surely continue to offer gasoline and diesel variants. Yes, the CO2 emission regulations are tighter and tighter. In the future, every continent will completely forbid combustion engines. All of the future vehicles will have all-electric and hybrid powertrain options, that’s unavoidable. Still, gasoline and diesel will continue to live for at least another decade.
