2023 Ram 3500: Transmission, Towing Capacity

The current generation of Ram HD pickup trucks has been on the market for a few years, and while they still look new and offer impressive performance and capabilities. According to the newest reports, the 2023 Ram 3500 will receive many updates. At this time, we are still waiting for confirmation from the officials, but it appears that a new transmission for this model will be available next year. Of course, we’re referring to the diesel model, as the gasoline model already has a fairly refined ZF-sourced gearbox.

Aside from a new gearbox, we are unlikely to see any significant changes. Most things are about to stay the same, especially in terms of mechanics. Visually, we may see minor cosmetic changes in the form of new color options, but the overall layout will almost certainly remain unchanged. We anticipate that the new version will be available in the second half of 2022.

Ram 3500 Specs

Aside from the new transmission, we have no doubt that the 2023 Ram 3500 will remain unchanged. This includes the engine lineup, which includes three powertrain options. The base model will continue to use the reliable 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine, which produces approximately 410 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed ZF transmission that performs admirably.

There are two options available for those who prefer diesel engines and require greater capability. We’re talking about a 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel in both cases. It produces around 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque in the base variant. The more powerful variant, on the other hand, is capable of developing 400 horsepower and 1.075 pound-feet of torque, with a maximum towing capacity of 37.000 pounds. As we said, new Allison transmission will be on offer.

Interior Updates

Changes on the inside are also unlikely. The forthcoming 2023 Ram 3500 will maintain the class-leading interior in terms of quality, with modern design combined with high-quality materials. When compared to competitors, its dashboard appears to be better, even in the most basic trim levels such as Tradesman.

Of course, upper trim levels provide a lot more. There, you can find finer materials and a plethora of exclusive features. This includes the optional 12.0-inch touchscreen. As before, Ram 3500 will offer numerous cab configurations, special editions, and optional packages.

Exterior Design

When it comes to cosmetic upgrades, the new 2023 Ram 3500 will not change. This is still a relatively new model, especially by heavy-duty truck standards. As a result, you can rely on the same mechanics, which are based on the standard Ram 1500 half-ton model, and ensure an excellent ride quality. This truck strikes a good balance between comfort and capability, and you can even get some significant updates.

Of course, we’re talking about air suspension, a class-exclusive feature that elevates ride quality to a whole new level. Visually, there is always the possibility of minor updates such as new color options and new wheels. On the other hand, we are confident that the overall appearance will not change.

2023 Ram 3500 Price, Release Date

The future 2023 Ram 3500 is expected to arrive in the second half of the year. Despite the possibility of a new 10-speed Allison gearbox, the diesel’s price should not change significantly. For reference, it currently starts at around $46,000.

On the other hand, gasoline models are available for $36,500. When it comes to competition, the segment is dominated by the Ford F-350, Chevy Silverado 3500, and GMC Sierra 3500 trucks.
