The new 2021 GMC Canyon is probably the last edition of the current generation. The 2022 YM was set to bring big changes and start the next-gen series. Meanwhile, the truck is going to be available in three trim levels. Elevation Standard is the entry-level model, and it can be turned into Elevation. If you want to go off-road, the AT4 is one of the best models in the mid-size pickup segment. On the other hand, if you seek for more luxury, then Denali is the right choice.
Trim levels are not the only thing buyers can choose cab configuration, bed lengths, and engines. So, Extended and Crew cab is at disposal, while the second one can get short and long boxes. A wide choice of engines is making GM pickups different from others. The base version is using a four-cylinder unit, another petrol drivetrain is V6, while the 2021 GMC Canyon is also coming with a diesel configuration. Combine it with the AT4 package, and you are getting a mean off-road vehicle.
Elevation and Elevation Standard
The base configuration for the Canyon truck is Elevation Standard. The truck offering an Extended cab and Crew Cab with a short bed, while the long box is not available. The entry-level version is sending power to the 4×2 system. If you want 4×4, you will need Elevation. Highlights of the most affordable model are a 7-inch touchscreen, power driver’s bucket, 17-inch wheels, and locking tailgate. The upper version, Elevation, will improve the offer with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, larger multimedia display, Wi-Fi, and tilt-telescoping steering wheel. Elevation package is available with 4×2 and 4×4 drives, as well as the Long Box for the Crew Cab.
2021 GMC Canyon AT4 Off-Road Truck
The new 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 is going to improve the off-road skills of the mid-size truck. The vehicle is available only with a Crew Cab configuration and buyers can pick either a 61- or 74-inch long bed. Another option you will have is a cloth or leather interior. The price difference is around $2,000. The AT4 truck will use only a 4×4 system with off-road shocks and suspension. Skid plates are protecting the underbody and transfer case. The wheels are 17-inchers. Inside, the All-Terrain 4×4 model will improve comfort with heated buckets and lumbar support for the driver’s seat.
A v6 petrol unit is a standard drivetrain, while the best performance is coming with the 2.8-liter Duramax oil-burner. The first impressions are very positive and it seems like the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 is going to be a big rival to Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. It is also a mechanical twin of the Chevy Colorado, but the new vehicle will draw more attention. We expect even more from the next-gen pickup arriving in 2022.
Luxury Truck: 2021 GMC Canyon Denali
Luxury trucks are almost gone. Only the high-end versions of existing working machines can offer you premium options. Nevertheless, many experts consider the Denali as the separate lineup from the standard GMC offer. This package is also available for the Canyon mid-size model.
Like the AT4, you will need a Crew Cab to upgrade it with the Denali bundle. Still, you are eligible to pick a 4×2 drive. Leather is covering the entire interior and infotainment is getting the premium Bose sound system. General Motors is throwing everything to the 2021 GMC Canyon Denali, and the offer includes an HD rear-view trailer camera and wireless charging. Outside, you will recognize the premium truck by the 20-inch wheels and special Denali badges.
Only the Elevation model will offer a four-cylinder engine. A 2.5-liter unit can produce 200 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. Still, you will need upgrades to select any other trim level. Besides that, a V6 is going to increase the towing capacity to 7,000 pounds. A 3.6-liter is producing 308 hp and 275 lb-ft and every model will offer this powerplant. The most impressive numbers are delivered by trucks using a diesel drivetrain. A 2.8-liter Duramax is producing 180 hp and 370 lb-ft. This is enough to make Canyon the best mid-size pickup for towing. It sets the bar at 7,700 lbs (same as Chevy Colorado diesel). Jeep Gladiator with the larger displacement is doing only 7,650 pounds.
The base 2021 GMC Canyon Elevation Standard will cost $27,500 when you include the destination fee. A V6 engine will add $1,500 and the Elevation will start at $31,200. Crew Cab and Short Box combo will cost you $3,000. This makes you eligible to select the 4×4 drive. Add it to the Elevation model and the MSRP reaches $38,000.
The AT4 starts just under $40,000 with cloth interior. If you put another $2,000, the truck is getting leather surfaces. The most advanced features are the most expensive ones. Denali package will start at $46,000, and it includes a premium paintjob. A couple of interior colors are also available as a free pick.
