After the refresh in 2017, Titan achieved the best two years in the market. However, in 2019 these numbers dropped, mainly because the US truckmakers delivered new units for their models. Nissan updated its big rig and we expect the recovery. On the other hand, the 2021 Nissan Titan is not bringing any serious change to the lineup. We could see the new engine, but the full redesign will wait.
The Japanese company will update most of their vehicles for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Since the Titan received its portion of changes this year, we will have to wait a bit before the truck gets more modifications. Mechanical changes excluded the turbodiesel engine for the Titan XD. However, it could be back soon. Also, a new transmission is here.
Styling is also new, but the overall shape didn’t change. Another revisit of the interior will draw more attention. Fans also hope to see the Regular Cab available again. Finally, the Warrior or Nismo concepts are still waiting for production. Either of these would make the 2021 Nissan Titan way more attractive.
Specs and Towing Capacity
Under the hood of the 2021 Nissan Titan is going to be a 5.6-liter V8 engine, also called “Endurance”. This is truck’s reliable partner ever since it appeared for the first time. The V8 engine is delivering 400 hp when using premium fuel. Regular gasoline drops the output to 387 ponies. The engine also adds 415 lb-ft of torque for the maximum towing capacity of 9,660 pounds. The company offers 4×2 and 4×4 drive modes. Instead of a 7-speed gearbox, the truck is now using a nine-pace automatic transmission. The first impressions are positive and it seems like the pickup is saving some fuel with it. Still, do not expect impressive numbers. 18 mpg combined is the best the Titan can do.
2021 Nissan Titan XD
The 2021 Nissan Titan XD is a larger brother, positioned somewhere between full-size and heavy-duty classes. Still, it uses the same petrol engines. Until the 2020 YM revisit, this model used a 5.0-liter turbodiesel V8 unit. With it, the towing capacity was 12,710 pounds. Now, this engine is in the books and it seems like it doesn’t come back. Nissan will focus on greener sources of power. The XD will count on the existing V8 powerplant.
Compared to the standard configuration, the 2021 Titan XD will be 15 inches longer. The wheelbase is 151 inch and the truck comes only with the Crew Cab configuration. The company dropped King Cab with the latest update. A short 6’5’’ box and all-wheel drive cannot be replaced for the XD model.
2021 Nissan Titan Warrior Production and Titan Nismo Rumors
When Nissan introduced the Warrior concept, buyers were very interested in it. However, the company is not producing it yet, although the attention is still there. The 2021 Nissan Titan Warrior is based on the XD model with the turbodiesel engine. Now, with the 5.0 unit gone, the future and production of this truck are questionable. It had everything an off-road monster need to offer, but the Japanese carmaker didn’t use momentum. Reviving the old project would be a surprise and probably the shocking therapy for the Titan truck.
Another interesting idea is the Titan Nismo package. Still, it is even harder to believe in this one since all we need about the pickup are rumors. Plus, Nissan is delivering the Nismo package only for its small crossovers and cars. Special tuning of the engine and sportier appearance will draw the attention. However, trucks are surviving thanks to their utility, and sporty and luxury models won’t have a lot of buyers nowadays.
2021 Nissan Titan Pro-4X To Rival Ford Raptor and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro
The 2021 Nissan Titan Pro-4X is built for the toughest terrains. The off-road truck will offer advanced parts to survive any road and weather conditions. Bilstein shocks and locking rear differential are the features that will pull you out of any troubles. The company also adds the hill descent control system and a few upgrades that will protect the body. The 4×4 is standard.
Sometimes we feel sorry about the Nissan Titan Pro-4X since most experts are praising Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and Ford F-150 Raptor. Well, two companies are providing excellent marketing to their trucks. But, don’t let them trick you – the 2021 Nissan Titan Pro-4X will be as capable as its main rivals. And the price is not too cheaper, starting at $50,000.
Next Generation is Coming in 2022/2023 Season
With the lack of updates for the upcoming season, we can make predictions about the future of the truck. The next big redesign will happen in 2022 or 2023. Nissan made a break this season, and Titan is one of the rare models that introduced significant changes. Now, the priority is shifted to crossovers and SUVs, with electric concepts being adapted. Before we see the new Titan, the carmaker will bring Frontier in the US, and Navara for the rest of the world.
